Her Campus Media Acquires Rebel Girls, Uniting Gen Alpha And Gen Z Powerhouse Media Brands Into One Multigenerational Women’s Empowerment Company

Windsor Western to lead both Rebel Girls and Her Campus Media; Room to Read named Global Impact Partner.

October 20, 2026 — Her Campus Media, the leading media company dedicated to empowering, uplifting, and supporting college women, today announced its acquisition of the Rebel Girls brand, the trailblazing global empowerment platform dedicated to helping raise the most inspired and confident generation of girls.

Her Campus Media’s acquisition of Rebel Girls helps to build a multigenerational storytelling platform that supports audiences across key life stages. The girls who first discovered Rebel Girls at its founding in 2016 are now heading to college, while many of the women who wrote for Her Campus when it launched in 2009 are now professionals raising daughters of their own. In addition, through Her Campus Media’s social impact partnership with Room to Read, this platform will extend the reach of inspiring content to girls in historically under-resourced communities around the world.

The acquisition places a tenured female founder at the center of a unified, multigenerational media ecosystem, with Windsor Western, Co-Founder, President, and CEO of Her Campus Media, taking the helm at Rebel Girls. Jes Wolfe, CEO of Rebel Girls, will transition to serve as Senior Advisor.

"It is vital for the journey of empowerment to continue from childhood through the teen years into the college years and beyond," said Western. "For the last decade, Rebel Girls set the standard for introducing young minds to inspiring role models and sparking their confidence. By joining forces, we are bridging the gap between early inspiration and young adult achievement to support our community through every milestone. Together with Room to Read, we will help girls around the world see possibility without borders, inspired by role models both close to home and across the globe."

Rebel Girls is on a trajectory to reach 100 million girls by 2030. Since its founding, Rebel Girls has inspired over 50 million girls across more than 115 countries, with its book series having sold over 11 million copies translated into 62 languages, its audio series with more than 30 million downloads, and its girl-first video series with more than 80 million views. Going forward, the Rebel Girls book series will be published by Penguin Random House. Her Campus Media is the number one media portfolio and ecosystem for Gen Z college women, with a community of over 135,000 journalists and content creators and a presence spanning over 2,300 colleges and universities globally across the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, Australia, India, South Africa, Ireland, Brazil, Singapore, and Nigeria.

"Building Rebel Girls into a global beacon has been the privilege of a lifetime," said Wolfe, outgoing CEO of Rebel Girls. "We believe that confident girls will radically transform the world. Together with thousands of women and girls who shared their stories, dreams, and actions with us, we built a platform for a plurality of voices. I'm excited to see this work continue, with the Her Campus Media creator network, which will give new meaning to 'built by girls, for girls,' and there's no better person to take us forward than Windsor."

After five years of partnership, global education organization Room to Read will now serve as the official Global Impact Partner of Rebel Girls, helping extend the reach and educational impact of its content globally. Drawing on Room to Read’s programmatic experience, local teams, and partnerships with education systems and community organizations, the collaboration will connect these stories and role models with Room to Read’s programming for adolescents, particularly girls, which develops critical life skills including resilience, leadership, collaboration, decision-making, and critical thinking.

“Stories can change what a girl imagines for her life. But seeing what is possible is only the beginning. At Room to Read, decades of working alongside girls have shown us that life skills strengthen the emotional resilience girls need to navigate challenges and pursue their aspirations. Through this partnership, girls can draw inspiration from role models in their own communities and around the world, and know that their own stories belong among them,” said Dr. Geetha Murali, CEO, Room to Read.

Her Campus Media is also building a new women's sports strategy that will draw on Rebel Girls's extensive partnerships across the women's sports ecosystem and will tap Her Campus Media's reach with college women through the Her Campus Athletic Club to create content, community, and brand partnerships that support girls and young women as athletes and fans at every stage of life. The strategy comes at a time of record growth in women's sports viewership, investment, and fandom, and positions the combined company to connect brands with the next generation of athletes and fans.

With the addition of Rebel Girls, Her Campus Media will scale its multi-platform offerings for Gen Z young women, GenZalpha teens, Gen Alpha girls and tweens, and Millennial women.
